História de Lisboa, by Filipe Abranches

Filipe Abranches was born in Lisbon in 1965. He studied both cinema and history, and began his career contributing to fanzines like Graphic, Lx Comics, Combate, Ai-Ai, Azul BD Très and Transcomix. He also drew some educational comics for Au Plaisir des Mots. For the French market, he cooperated on Pelure Amère, the publishing house Amok ( 'Porto Luna', 'Autarcic Comix' and contributions to Le Cheval sans Tête) and Hard Luck. Abranches created two issues of the project 'História de Lisboa', an illustrated history of Lisbon, in collaboration with the historian Oliveira Marques. His work was also featured in l'Association's Comix 2000 anthology.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
