En Björnhistoria (1899)

Ottilia Adelborg, born in Karlskrona, was a Swedish watercolor artist and illustrator. She is one of the first Swedish artists making children's picture books, with her earliest picture book published in 1882. In the 1890s she contributed to several children's magazines of the time. Although she mainly illustrated traditional nursery rhymes, she also wrote her own stories and often used the comics format. Besides children's books, Adelborg has also illustrated books for adults, designed wallpaper paterns and written books. She opened a school for lace making in Gagnef, Dalarna in 1903. The municipality of Gagnef instituted the literary Ottilia Adelborg prize in 2000.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
