The Wide Boys by Janet Ahlberg
The Wide Boys (Hello You #1, October 1989)

Janet Ahlberg was born Janet Hall in Leicester. She met her husband Allan Ahlberg while at a teacher training course at Sunderland Technical College. Together they are the creators of many popular children's books, that Allan drew and Janet illustrated.

They started out with books like 'The Old Joke Book', 'The Vanishment of Thomas Tull' and 'Burglar Bill' and their most popular work was 1986's 'The Jolly Postman'. They also made comic stories, that were published in magazines, including Hello You! in Holland. Janet Ahlberg died of cancer in November 1994.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
