Raiko Aleksiev was born in Pazardjik, Bulgaria. He was known as Fra Diavolo, as well as under 10 other pseudonyms. He was a writer, producer, artist and caricaturist. He published in Shturec (Cricket) on a weekly base, and was also present in Chuden Sviat. In 1944 he was murdered because of his political caricatures. His works were forbidden until 1990. Now, an avenue and a gallery are named after him.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service.
