Zio Paperone, by Maurizio Amendola

Maurizio Amendola was born in Venice as the son of painter Aldo Amendola. He joined the studios of Luciano Capitanio at age 15, where he learned the finer points of cartooning. He also assisted Romano Scarpa on some animation projects in the early 1970s. Amendola's first comics works, western and crime stories, were published in 1972-73 by publisher Gino Sansoni. Amendola drew for Corriere dei Piccoli from 1973 to 1974, and from 1977 to 1980, he illustrated several stories of 'Braccio di Ferro' ('Popeye') at Editore Bianconi. He began a longtime collaboration with the Italian Disney production in 1978. At first only an illustrator, he also began writing stories of his own in 1982. He was forced by the editorial team of Topolino to draw his Duck stories in the style of Al Taliaferro in 1985. In the late 1980s, he inked several of Romano Scarpa's stories.
