comic art by Tekin Aral

Tekin Aral was one of the most popular comic artists in Turkey. He was born in Istanbul in 1941 and made his debut as a comic artist in 1956, when his first work was published in Dolmus magazine. This was only the beginning of a steady production of comics and cartoons, published in several magazines and newspapers. One of his many titles is 'Tarzan ve Arap Kadri' (together with Latif Demirci), which also appeared in several album collections. Together with his brother Oğuz Aral, he founded Gırgır magazine. In 1976, he launched magazine Firt, where he continued his comics and columns. He also wrote daily Turkish anecdotes in newspaper Günaydin. Tekin Aral died in 1999 of kidney and lung problems.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
