The Dutch cartoonist Dirk Arend was born in Katwijk aan Zee. In 1980 he began his career with the comic 'Jan Hagel' in Het Leidsch Dagblad. His comics, including 'Olivier Flap', were published in the papers of the Buijze Persbladen, Happy voor Kids, and Telekids.
Dirk is an expert on classic Dutch comics and especially those that came from the Toonder Studio's. He has been a great help to the Lambiek website with identifying artwork and providing additional information for our section on Dutch Comics History.
