Mike Arens was a classic American Disney artist. Like many of the future comic artists, Arens started his career at Disney in the animation studios. He turned to comics in the early 1950s, doing funny animal, adventure and western strips for Dell Publishing.

Under the Disney label, he did 'Davy Crockett', 'Mary Poppins', 'Chip'n'Dale', 'Donald Duck' and 'Scamp'. Other Dell titles include 'Range Rider', 'Roy Rogers', 'The Frontiersman', 'Tarzan', 'Korak' and 'My Favourite Martian'.

He was the artist of the daily 'Scamp' comic from 1969 to his death in 1976. His other newspaper comic credits include 'Hey Mac' (daily, 1951-1962) and 'Roy Rogers' (Sunday page, 1957-1962). He was also an animator at Hanna-Barbera.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
