Andrés Balcells Velayos is a Spanish studio artist who mainly worked for foreign publishers through the Comundi agency. He has done art on several features for the German Bastei Verlag in the 1970s, including horror stories for Gespenster Geschichten. Balcells has also done art for Marvel's Vampire Tales in the USA and for the girl's magazine Tina in Holland. In Spain, his work appeared in magazines like Sortega, Escalofrío and Gran Pulgarcito. He was one of the artists of the series 'Safari en África' in Gran Pulgarcito in 1970 (scripts by Sánchez Pascual) and he also drew 'Scotland Yard' for the publisher Plan.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
