The Catalan artist María Barrera was part of the group of female comic illustrators that drew romantic comic series for the female market in the 1950s. She has drawn comics for publications like Sissi, Jana and Pulgarcito, and has worked with characters like 'Celia', 'Pituca' and 'Anita' (in Jana). She illustrated several books in the collections Historias ('Genoveva de Bravante', 'Alicia en el País de las Maravillas', 'Sissi emperatriz', 'Aquellas Mujercitas') and Joyas Literarias Juveniles ('Hombrecitos', 1975).
