Allison Barrows studied advertising at the Paier College of Art in Hamden, Connecticut. She married the illustrator Romas Kukalis and settled in Manhattan. Eventually, they returned to Connecticut, where Barrows worked as advertising copy chief for a department store chain before moving to The Hartford Courant as an artist and designer. There, she created her first published comic strip, 'Friends Fatales'. She launched her newspaper comic strip 'PreTeena' at Universal Press Syndicate in 2001. In addition, she has written and illustrated several children's books.
