Beppi Knott, who signs her work with her first name, was born in Choptank, Maryland. She studied Painting at Townson State University. She has teamed up with her sister Mary Knott, who is a poet and writer, and created the comic 'Pretty Beaver' in 1998. Five issues have appeared of this series. Their work has also appeared in magazines such as Proper Gander, the New York Waste, Toxic Flyer and Art-O-Matic.

Beppi also incorporates comics in her fine art, and uses techniques such as watercolor, quilting, needlepoint, acrylic and Prismacolor. her work has been exhibited on several occasions, most notably in the Slovenian Break 2.1 Festival and the World Columbia Exposition in Chicago.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
