Comic strip by Marten Bierman

Marten Bierman is a Dutch scientist, graphic artist and politician. He studied architecture and drew the title comic of the magazine Student in 1966. He subsequently drew 'Loek Spandoek', a comic strip for Radikaal, the magazine of the political party PSP. He has also worked for De Groene Amsterdammer and De Volkskrant.

Bierman was party leader for the Federatieve Groenen during the 1986 elections for the House of Representatives, and a candidate for Leefbaar Nederland during the 2002 elections. He was a member of the Dutch Eerste Kamer (House of Lords) for De Groenen and several regional parties between 1995 and 2003. He was alderman in Zandvoort between 2006 and 2010.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
