Tiger, by Bud Blake (1990)

Bud Blake was born in Nutley, N.J., where he attended elementary and high school, and later the National Academy of Design in New York City. Prior to this, he had sold some cartoons to The Judge magazine. In 1937, he joined an advertising firm, the Kudner Agency, as a paste-up boy. A three-year stint in the infantry in World War II briefly interrupted his career, which ended in 1957 when he left his position as an executive art director to create a cartoon panel, 'Ever Happen To You?' for King Features Syndicate.

Tiger, by Bud Blake (1965)

Blake's award-winning series 'Tiger' was launched in 1965, and appeared in some 400 newspapers worldwide during the top of its popularity. 'Tiger' was a strip about a group of care-free little children, a little less virulent than 'Peanuts', but still with a sharp sence of humor. Blake drew the strip for nearly forty years, and died two years after his retirement.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
