After his studies at the Academie of Fine Arts in Brussels, Michel de Bom focused on scenario-writing. He joined the magazine Spirou in the mid-1970s, together with Watch, Dédé and Bosse. They also launched the monthly magazine Zazou, which lasted for only one issue. Bom wrote his first scenarios in Spirou, creating series like 'Les Déboussolés' (with Watch) and 'Alcofribas' (with Dédé), as well as the editorial page 'Les Grandes Énigmes de la Troisième Planète'. From 1978, he wrote some long episodes of 'Le Flagada' for Charles Degotte, and he launched the series 'Big Joe' with Malik. With Frank Pé, he began the poetic series 'Broussaille'.
He expanded his writing activities when he joined the magazine Tintin in 1980. He began numerous collaborations, such as with Walli ('Modeste et Pompon', 'Chlorophylle', 'Gil Sinclair'), Sidney ('Julie, Claire et Cécile'), Patrice Cadot ('Yvain et Yvon', 'Chaffoux'), Yves Urbain ('Kati Brizard'), Crisse ('Nahomi'), Drèze ('Louis Valmont'), Rodrigue ('Les Conspirateurs'), and Thierry Cayman ('Sylvain de Rochefort').
