Broussaille by Frank and Bom
Broussaille - Les Sculpteurs de la Lumière (1986, artwork by Frank)

After his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, Michel de Bom focused on comics scriptwriting. He edited the shortlived fanzine Zazou and then joined the magazine Spirou in the mid-1970s, together with Watch, Dédé and Bosse. Among Bom's early scripts were series illustrated by his former Zazou colleagues Watch and Dédé, including 'Les Déboussolés', 'Alcofribas' and the editorial page 'Les Grandes Énigmes de la Troisième Planète'. He worked with Charles Degotte on some 'Flagada' stories in the late 1970s and created 'Big Joe' with Malik.

One of the highlights of his career is 'Broussaille', the poetic series about nature, animals and the city that he creates on an irregular base with Frank Pé since 1983. In the 1980s he expanded his writing activities and also began an assocation with Tintin and its publisher Le Lombard. He began numerous collaborations, like with Walli ('Modeste et Pompon', 'Chlorophylle', 'Gil Sinclair'), Patrice Cadot ('Yvain et Yvon', 'Chaffoux'), Yves Urbain ('Kati Brizard'), Crisse ('Nahomi'), Drèze ('Louis Valmont'), Rodrigue ('Les Conspirateurs'), and Thierry Cayman ('Sylvain de Rochefort'). Probably his longest running serial is the humorous girls' comic 'Julie, Claire, Cécile' that he creates with Sidney since 1982.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
