Johannes Borer, born in Zwingen, is a Swiss cartoonist and illustrator. He went to commercial school, and was trained as an operating secretary at the post office in Basel. In the evenings, he took art courses. He worked for advertising agencies for over 5 years, and works as an independent cartoonist, illustrator and riddle maker in Basel since 1980. Borer has worked for over 100 newspapers and magazines, including Das Beste, Stern, Punch, Freundin, Spick, Junior, Weltwoche, Die Welt, Berliner Morgenpost, etc. He has made the riddle comic 'SpaSS mit Oma und Opa' for Junior, and has also created comic strips like 'Schräge Tierwelt' and 'MiNiMUH'.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over
12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
