Steve Breen was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Orange County. He graduated in political science from the University of California in 1992. Heading for a job as history teacher, he was noticed for his comics and employed by the Asbury Park Press as editorial cartoonist. In 1998, Steve Breen was awarded the Pulitzer Prize, and a year later the Wilbur Award for his newspaper strip 'Grand Avenue'. In 2001, Breen switched jobs and started as editorial cartoonist for the San Diego Union-Tribune. His work appears in several magazines such as Newsweek and USA Today, and is syndicated by Copley News Service.
