Postais de Viagem
Teresa Camara Pestana, a self-taught artist, was born in 1962 in Setubal, Portugal. She lived in Mozambique and Germany but eventually returned to Portugal. While in Germany in 1995 she published 'Hier Babylon' at her own expense. A Portuguese version appeared in 1996.
She has published in a variety of comics and graphic arts fanzines, including Razzia, Ox-fanzine, Striburger, Sunburn, Milk and Wodka, Biblia, Bildstörung, Moga Mobo, Plop, Cadernos Perifericos, Orpheuzinho, Terminal, Facada, Panik Electro, Tertulia bdzine, Subverso and Missil. Her work for Wittek's collective 'Panic Electro' was being displayed at the Comic-Salon Erlangen in Germany.
She publishes her own fanzine Gambuzine (doubly awarded at the International Comics Festival of Amadora), doing pioneering work to translate and introduce completely unknown German comics in Portugal from artists like Kreitz, Wittek, Katz und Gold, Markus Huber, Rautie, Dorgathen and Levin Kurio, as well as work by Claudio Parentela (Italy), Steffen and Clayton (New-Zealand), Matjaz Bertoncelj and Ivan Mitrewski (Slovenia) and several others.
In 2007 she chronicled her life in Africa in the comic 'Postais de Viagem'. With the help of her friend, comic artist and web designer Axel Blotevogel, Gambuzine returned in 2008 as a much larger (84 pages) annual fanzine.
