Luis Castillo Barzaga is a Cuban painter and comic book artist, born in Guantanamo. He was among the early contributors to the Cuban comic magazine El Pionero, established in 1961 by the Unión de Pioneros de Cuba youth organization, with features like 'Nuestros Amigos' and 'Felipe'. Castillo had already done some unfortunate attempts at animation in the 1940s, namely the productions 'Coctel Musical' (1946) and 'El Jibaro y el Cerdito' (1947). In the 1970s, he created such characters as 'Guaso y Carburo' for animated TV series. Casillo's characters are generally anthropomophized animals.
