Maurice-Albert Chénechot, who signed with Chen and his initials Mac, was born in Issoudun. He initially pursued a career in music and worked as a violin teacher, before turning to political cartooning in 1936. He worked for L'Echo des Marchés du Centre until 1942, and subsequently drew for La France au Combat (1944), Ici-Paris (1945), La Presse (1946) and Marius (1947).

He also made two books with drawings from local life in the Issoudun area in 1937 and 1938. His silent comic strip 'Riri' appeared in La Nouvelle République between 1951 and 1953. Afterwards, he continued as an illustrator for France Dimanche, Boléro, Radar, Paris-Jour and Détective. He retired in 1984.

Series and books by Maurice Chénechot in stock in the Lambiek Webshop:

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
