Giampaolo Chies was an Italian comic artist and illustrator, born in Bologna. After his artistic studies, he made his comics debut with 'Virus Psik', a character created by Max Bunker and published in Tommy of Editoriale Corno starting in 1968. The adventures of this psychiatrist where moved over to Eureka in 1969.

Chies moved to Milan in 1971, where he remained active for Eureka and also joined the animation team of Gamma Film. After a brief interlude in advertising, Chies returned to comics by contributing new stories of 'Virus Psik', as well as independent stories under the title 'Monodia', to Eureka, all in collaboration with Max Bunker. Chies and Bunker are also the authors of 'Pinocchio Super Robot'.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
