Alexandru Ciubotariu, als known as Ciubi, was born in Călăraşi, Romania in 1979 and studied at the Art Academy in Iasi, where he graduated in 2004. He has published his work in over 60 national and international newspapers and magazines. In Bucharest area alone, he has contributed to Mini Azi, Jurnalul SF, Pif Surprize, 2000 Plus, Playboy, TV Story, Apropo TV, Business Magazin, Standard Business, Le Monde Diplomatique, Cotidianul, Doxi and Pipo. Publications from Belgium, Greece, Slovenia, Poland and the Czech Republic also ran his stories.
He has illustrated thirteen books and made eleven comic albums, starting with 'Străinii' by Editions Europolis in 1995, and followed by works like 'Alex la Paris', 'Poveste despre eu', 'Club 106' and 'Aventurile lui Doxi'. In 2010, he published 'Pisica Pătrată' with Éditions Vellant, the first album about street-art in Romania. He participated in over 40 international exhibitions, and had his first solo-exhibition in 2007. His work is very diverse and has won numerous awards since 1994. He lives and works in Bucharest as a freelance graphic artist and illustrator for several publishing houses. He has also designed several stamps for the Romanian postal services.
