Richie Rich

Sid Couchey was an American comic book artist, and a prolific contributor to Harvey Comics in the 1950s and 1960s. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he took a correspondence course from the Landon School of Illustration and Cartooning. He later graduated from the Art Career School and the Cartoonists and Illustrators School in New York City and got his first job assisting John Lehti on 'Tommy of the Big Top' and 'Tales from the Great Book'.

He then drew several stories for titles like Heroic Comics by Famous Funnies, before joining Harvey Comics. He illustrated a great many stories starring 'Richie Rich', 'Little Lotta' and 'Little Dot', without ever signing his work.

In the 1980s, he was an illustrator for the magazine Good Old Days. He spent the following years doing local artwork in the northern New York area, especially cartoons starring Champ, the Monster of Lake Champlain, but also artwork for alcohol-awareness programs of the State of Vermont. He was also one of the artists for the 'Tom Tyler Tales' comic books, and one of the founders of the Adirondack Art Association in Essex, New York.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service.
