Lars Dahl began drawing comics in 1973. In 1976, he made his debut as a comic artist with 'Kaa, den skøre slange' ('Kaa, the crazy snake') in Seriemagasinet. After that, his work appeared in several amateur fanzines in a more realistic style. In 1983, he started the comic workshop 'Hjelm Påbudt ('Hardhat Area') with Mogens Gårdsmann and Torsten Overgaard, producing comics like 'Sweet Love'. In 1987, Dahl and Gårdsmann began the pirate series 'Kystens brødre' ('The Brothers of the Coast'). However, as they could not agree on the drawing style, the collaboration ended after only five pages. Dahl continued on his own, and the album finally appeared in 1994.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over
12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
