Arend van Dam is a Dutch commercial artist and (political) cartoonist. Born in Vlaardingen, he studied psychology at the University of Amsterdam and went on to become an illustrator, comic artist and cartoonist based in Landsmeer. He has sometimes used the pseudonym Zetbé. Van Dam has published in Hervormd Nederland, Centraal Weekblad, de Tijd, Het Financieele Dagblad, Het Agrarisch Dagblad and several corporate and house organ publications.

Van Dam created comic characters like 'In-tel-ligentje' for Intel Personeelsblad (from 1972), 'Rabofantje' for Raboband (from 1975) and 'Suup' for Diligentia (from 1976). He ha also published comic strips and cartoons for Nieuwe Revu, VU Magazine and Opzij, and made illustrations for books. Besides a cartoonist, he is a teacher in Industrial and organizational psychology at the VU.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
