Ubiratan Libanio Dantas de Araujo, or simply Bira Dantas, was born in São Paulo, Brasil. He drew for the comics magazine Os Trapalhões from 1980 to 1982. In 1985, he was member of AQC (Cartoonist and Comics Drawer Association). He has published in many comics magazines (Pântano, Tralha, Porrada, Megazine, Bundas and 'LULA, a winner's history' the official comics biography of the new Brazilian president) and editorial cartoons to newspapers as Retrato do Brasil, Folha da Tarde, Diário do Povo, and to Workers Unions Newspapers from São Paulo. He also publishes online.

Bira Dantas did a signing at Lambiek the end of May 2008, drawing caricatures and displaying some of his recent work. He drew caricatures, signed books for guests, and entertained us with his harmonica.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
