comic art by José Sobral de Almada Negreiros 1926
Painter, writer and futurist José Sobral de Almada Negreiros made several experiments with comics as an art form. One of his most famous exploits in the comics world was 'O Velho, o Rapaz e o Burro', a comic adaptation of an old traditional tale in rhyme, published in l'Ilustração Portuguesa. In the late 1920s, Almada Negreiros moved to Spain. He made comics regularly for the magazine El Sol between 1927 and 1929. His most innovative work was published in Sempre Fixe, where he created several of his best comic pages, including 'Os Dois Irmãos Muito Unidos' and 'O Sonho do Pechalin'.
