Ángel de la Calle

Ángel De la Calle published his first comics during the second half of the 1970s. They appeared in Spanish underground comix and in magazine Star. In the 1980s he published a few occasional short stories in adult magazines Bésame Mucho, Rambla, Rampa Rambla, Comix Internacional and El Víbora. From the mid 1980s to the mid 1990s he hardly published any new comics although a few of his works were reprinted in Zona 84 or in foreign publications like Heavy Metal and Fantastik. Therefore he mainly worked on advertising, illustration, graphic design and story boards until he created 'Mar y Mari' for the summer supplement of newspaper La Nueva España in 1996.

This summer daily strip, which soon changed newspapers to El Comercio and La Voz de Avilés, had regular compilations which were issued every year. Ángel De la Calle signed this strip with the female pseudonym Adela C. Meanwhile Ediciones Sins Entido published his long work 'Tina Modotti: Una Mujer del Siglo XX', a biography of the Italian-born photographer and politic activist Tina Modotti. It first appeared in two volumes, in 2003 and 2005. The publisher launched the complete work in an only volume in 2007.

Ángel De la Calle has also been involved in other activities related to comics, such as the organization of events like La Semana Negra de Gijón, the edition of magazines about the comics medium and the publication of books about comic artists.
