Dragan de Lazare was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1964 into a family of Yugoslav diplomats. He became interested in comics by reading the work of Macherot, Deliège, Tillieux, Hermann and Franquin.

In 1986, he decided to move to Paris, where he received an education in interior decorating. At the same time, he made several comic pages for some Yugoslav comic magazines. In 1989, his work appeared on the French market with an album of 'Yves Rokatansky'. Two years later, De Lazare met Mythic, who asked him to participate in the creation of 'Rubine' with François Walthéry. He also contributed to the Belgrade comic magazine Finesa.
