Xavier, raconté par le ménestrel
Father Pierre Defoux was a Jesuit, who was active in several fields of art. Born in Arlon, he settled in Brussels, where he worked as a painter, illustrator, sculptor and creator of lattice windows. His worked was always devoted to relgion, such as his illustrations for books like 'Ces Inutiles' and 'Regarde qui te fait signe'.
He was the author of one comic strip, called 'Xavier, raconté par le ménestrel'. Drawn in a Clear Line style, it was originally published in Spirou in 1953. The story was later reprinted in La Libre Belgique and in book format by Éditions Hélyode in 1990, and by Édition Coccinelle in 2002. The final edition had 17 extra pages. Defoux passed away during the final day of the 40th Angoulême Comics Festival, where several of his original comic pages were exhibited in the local cathedral.
