Adrian Dingle was born in Wales and came to Canada at the age of three. During the 1930s, he worked as a commercial artist to supplement his career as a painter. He co-founded the publishing company Hillborough Studio with René Kulbach in 1941, where he created the first Canadian national superhero: 'Nelvana of the Northern Lights'. Hillborough merged with Bell Features a year later, and Dingle continued his career as both art director and artist at Bell. |

In addition to 'Nelvana', he created new characters like 'The Penguin' and 'Nils Grant, Private Investigator'. He was also a versatile cover artist. In the late 1940s, when the Canadian comics market collapsed, Dingle focused more on book and magazine illustration. Later on, he became famous for his landscape paintings. |
