Dio van der Veen is an artist from Nijmegen who works in the field of photography, film, illustration, design and music. He studied to become a teacher, but eventually chose a profession in webdesign. Between 2001 and 2011, he drew the gag strip 'John and John', that he published online, and, since 2005, in Zone 5300. He has also worked for playboy.nl, Soft Secrets, BNN and Startende Ondernemers. Since 2010, he is mainly active with media productions, developing corporate films and websites. In 2013 and 2014, he produced 'Stripmakers drinken wijn aan het water', a series of interviews with Dutch comic artists by Kees de Boer in commission of the Federation of Dutch Comic Artists (BNS).

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
