Caricatures by Aleksandar Dobrinov

Aleksandar Dobrinov was a Bulgarian caricaturist born in Veliko Turnovo. From his mother's side he had a kinship with great artists. In his father's inn, a lot of famous people stayed, like Stoian Mihaelovski, Canko Cerkovski and Petko Todorov. He lived and worked Czechoslovakia for five years, and provided 6 individual exhibitions. He painted a hundreds of portraits of famous artists, writers, politicians and bankers, published in many prestigious foreign newspapers. Dobrinov has also drawn booklets of comics with poetry, but they are hard to find, because they were forbidden.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
