Jan van Doornspeek is a Zwolle-based Dutch graphic artist, illustrator and comic artist. Among his illustration clients are BoekieBoekie, KRO Kindertijd, ZIZO Magazine, NRC.Next and the publishers Malmberg and Querido. His work for Malmberg also included educational comic strips. Van Doorspeek won the Benelux Comics Prize in 2011 with his comic 'De Smeulende Vrouw', that was published in the Dutch paper NRC.Next. He has also made comics for the National Historical Museum, the collective book 'Filmfanfare' and the montly magazine Tattoo Planet ('Tattoo Joe & Co'). His comics version of Snow White, called 'Sneeuwwitte tranen' was featured in the Belgian comic magazine P@per in 2014.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over
12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
