Uğur Durak is a Turkish cartoonist and painter, born in Karabuk in 1959. He began to work as a cartoonist for the children's magazine Dogan Kardes at the age of 16. He studied Fine Arts in Germany at the Fachhochschule Köln. Durak has worked as a professional illustrator for the press and for ad agencies in Germany and Istanbul for many years. During this period, he already published in Girgir, Mikrop and Milliyet.
Durak has worked for many satirical magazines and he designed and edited three different ones himself, including the Turkish-German publication Biber (1984). He created many features for magazines and newspapers, such as 'Ugur Durak RakaRakaRak' on the backpage of Hıbır, and the daily strips 'Mırmırlar' (for the centre-left daily newspaper Cumhuriyet) and 'Bizim Şirket' (in Gazete Habertürk since 2002).
Among his other comic creations are 'Mimo', 'Kuul Takilan Kiil Kenan' and 'Intikamcı Süheyla', and he has also published in Çivi, Joker, Lemanyak and the paper Akşam. He is the author of about twenty books; most of them are for children. He continues to work on cartoons and oil paintings in his atelier in Istanbul.
