Volker Ernsting was born in Bremen in 1941, and studied at the College of Design in this city. His first illustration work was published in 1962 in magazine Pardon, to which he contributed for the following eleven years, creating cartoons and comic satire, such as spoofs on classics like 'Don Giovanni' and 'Odysseus'. In 1966, Ernstings cartoons were published in album form for the first time. Some titles of collections are: 'Hals- und Beinbruch', 'Goldrausch' and '...und lauft und lauft und lauft'. In 1972, his comic satire 'Sherlock Holmes und das Geheimnis der blauen Erbse' appeared. Other titles of work by Volker Ernsting are 'Mike Macke', 'Porridge City' and 'Köter und Co.'.
