Espé pursued a scientific direction in high school, but upon his graduation, he went to study at the School of Fine Arts of Toulouse. There, he created the fanzine Broute and got acquainted with several artists from the area, such as Aris. After obtaining his degree, he worked in industrial desing for a while, but eventually returned to comics. He cooperated on some collective albums and 'Paroles de Taule' under the guidance of Eric Corbeyran at the publishing house Petit à Petit. He then began the series 'Le Territoire' in cooperation with Corbeyran and the writer Ugarte at the publishing house Delcourt.
