Nené Estivill

Nené Estivill was a member of the group of artists that renewed the old Bruguera school in the 1960s. He was born in Pontevedra in 1926 and began his career in magazines like Camino, Potosí and La Risa, for which he created his first series, 'El malvado Doctor Cianuro'. In 1956 he was hired by Editorial Valenciana to work for the children's magazine Jaimito on series like 'La Bola' and 'Cañete Camarón'.

He began his association with Bruguera in 1958, starting out with drawing short jokes. His first comic characters for this publisher were 'La terrible Fifí' in Pulgarcito, featuring a child with mischievous behavior, and 'Silvano Mengano' in Can Can. In 1961 he created his best-known character 'Agamenón' in magazine Tío Vivo (second run). This series parodied the rustic and unsophisticated everyday life in Spain's rural areas.

Estivill continued to work on comics until the 1970s. He combined his cartoon work with other jobs, such as regional manager for Telefónica. His work was rediscovered by Ediciones B and he drew new comics between 1987 and 1991.
