Judge Dredd, by Carlos Ezquerra

Carlos Ezquerra, a Spanish who has lived in England and Andorra, is the creator of the extremely violent 'Judge Dredd' comic. Written by Pat Mills and John Wagner under the collective pseudonym of John Howard, 'Judge Dredd' made his first appearance in 2000 AD magazine in March 1977. Ezquerra began working in British comics in 1972 and since 1974 almost exclusively for Fleetway Editions.

After only a couple of episodes, Ezquerra handed over 'Dredd' to Mike McMahon, who further shaped the character. Besides 'Judge Dredd', Ezquerra graphically designed 'Strontium Dog' and 'Al's Baby' for 2000 AD and Judge Dredd Megazine. In the 1990s he returned on the 'Judge Dredd' comic and took on 'Bloody Mary' at DC publishers. Carlos Ezquerra is also famous for his work on 'Star Wars' comics and the Dark Horse comic 'Mara Jade'.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
