Chouchou by Philippe Fix

Born in Grendelbruch, Alsace, Philippe Fix studied Decorative Arts in Strasbourg. He began his career with the comic 'Cykko et le talisman' in Bayard in 1960. He is best known as the creator of 'Chouchou', a character he first presented in Salut les Copains!. It had it's own magazine from November 1964 to May 1965 and then it appeared in a couple of 1965 issues of Pilote. 'Chouchou' appeared as a daily comic strip in France-Soir in October 1964.

Fix switched from comics to children's book and advertising illustration in the late 1960s. However, his character 'Chouchou' reappeared in the book 'Chouchou au Far West' (Hachette, 1966). Fix furthermore made cover illustrations for collections like Folio Junior Légende of Éditions Gallimard.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
