Nicolas Fructus is a comic artist and storyboard artist for animated films and video games, specialized in the science-fiction genre. He studied at the École Emile Cohl in his hometown Lyon. After his graduation in 1991, he worked as an illustrator for collections like Livre de Poche and Notre Temps (Fleurus-Mame) and the sci-fi magazine Bifrost. By the mid 1990s, he was working for animation studios like Marina Productions and France Animation, before becoming art director with the Arxel Tribe videogame studio. In this occupation, he has worked with authors like Moebius and Philippe Druillet.

He turned to creating comics in 2001. His first series was 'Thorinth', of which he wrote and drew five books for Les Humanoïdes Associés between 2001 and 2007. He especially stood out for his coloring techniques, that he also showcased in François Boucq's 'Bouncer' comic from 2001. Following the illustrations for the fantasy/horror book 'Kadath' in 2010, Fructus launched the new science-fiction series 'Shadowman Killer' with Alejandro Jodorowsky and the publishing house Delcourt in 2010.

In addition, he also continued to work on animation projects, such as Luc Besson's adaptation of 'Arthur and the Minimoys' (2006). As an illustrator, he worked for the fantasy publications of Éditions du Bélial and for the games publisher Rackam.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
