Mrs. Rummage, by Hy Gage

Hy Gage was born on April 13, 1878, in Philadelphia. His first known comic was 'Breeches Boys', which appeared in the Philadelphia Press newspaper in 1901. During the first decade of the twentieth century, he did at least five other comic strips: 'Doctor Peach' (briefly, in 1908, for the Philadelphia Evening Telegram), 'Generous George' (1906-07), 'Up in the Air with Hungry Halley' (revived as 'Hungry Halley', 1913-14, syndicated through the Chicago Tribune syndicate), 'Mr. Grouch' (1907-08), 'Mrs. Rummage' (1907-13). In the twenties, he came up with 'Miss Information' (1924-30, syndicated through the Ledger syndicate), and 'Doc' (1925). Two more of his comics appeared in the 1940s: 'Foxy' and 'Butch' (1946). He died in New Jersey in November, 1971.

Series and books by Hy Gage in stock in the Lambiek Webshop:

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
