At first, Jean-Claude Gal was a drawing teacher near Paris. In 1972 and 1973, he made some short stories for Pilote. Three years later, he illustrated a longer story, 'Les Armées du Conquérant', which was published in the first issue of Métal Hurlant. The story was written by Jean-Pierre Dionnet, with whom he continued working in 1980 on the series 'Arn'. In late 1992, Gal teamed up with Jodorowsky and illustrated the first volume of 'La Passion de Diosamante'. Gal died two years later, when he was working on the second volume.
