Master Key, by Paul Gattuso

Paul Gattuso was a comic book artist during the Golden Age of American Comics. He was affiliated with the Harry Chesler Shop from 1944, and drew mainly crime stories for Dynamic, Punch and Scoop. He was the creator of features like 'Black Dwarf' in Red Seal Comics. Gattuso was additionally present in (mainly crime) titles by St. John Publishing, and D.S. Publishing.

In the 1950s, he drew horror stories for Avon Comics, crime features for Feature Comics, Fox Comics, and romance stories for Harvey Comics. In 1954, his crime work was made infamous by Dr. Fredric Wertham, who used Gattuso's work as an example of cruelty in comics for his book 'Seduction of the Innocent'.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
