comic from Radiobode, presumably drawn by Henk Gijsbers

Hendrik Jacob Gysbers (or Gijsbers?) was a Dutch illustrator and political cartoonist. He was one of the main illustrators for the AVRO Radiobode in the 1950s. In alternation with artists like Henk Albers and Eppo Doeve, he was one of the regular illustrators for the 'Paul Vlaanderen' serials, among other things. He was also possibly the artist for the comic strip 'Eddy de Televisie-aap', that was written by Paul Biegel and published from 15 December 1957 until 1 February 1959. Gijsbers has made satirical cartoons for magazines like Elsevier in at least the 1980s. Gijsbers is also credited with the 1991 comic book 'Caspar en de Neminsky-diamant', published by Bert Meppelink in 1991.

We are not sure if the comic strip was drawn by Henk Gysbers, but the work resembles his illustration work for the magazine (see bottom). Please contact us if you have more details.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
