Kara Murat by Suleyman Gok

Süleyman Gök is a Turkish comic artist, who began his career working for Oguz Aral at Girgir magazine. He then started contributing to papers like Milliyet, Sabah, Vatan, Tercuman, Tan, Gunaydin, Gun and Ates. His best known comic is the one about the Turkish historical hero 'Kara Murat', that published in the newspaper Günlük, as well as a weekly comic book.

He also contributed to the comics magazine Meme, and made comics versions fo the Yasar Kemal novels 'Kamali Zeybek' and 'Cakircali efe'. Outside of Turkey, he has drawn for European magazines like Car, Man and Playboy.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
