from Fight Comics, by Al Grenet (1941)

Born in Hungary, Alfred Grenet was an artist through the Eisner/Iger Studio in the late 1930s, early 1940s. He contributed to Fiction House's Fight Comics and did logo designs for 'Dollman', 'Uncle Sam', 'Black Hawk' and 'Plastic Man'. In the mid-1940s, he moved over to Quality Comics, where he worked as an editor throughout the 1950s. He also did story art and covers for Police Comics, Blackhawk, romance titles and Marmaduke Mouse. In addition, he worked for I.W. Publications' 'Krazy Krow', 'Super Rabbit', 'Wacky Woodpecker', 'Ziggy Pig' and 'Tippy Terry'.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
