
Gwénaël de Bonneval, better known as simply Gwen, was born in Nantes. He spent most of his childhood in Paris, and then went to Lyon, where he got his degree in literature. He began his career doing illustrations for the press. He began free-lancing in 1995, and his work appeared in Spirou and Le Journal de Mickey.

He was also active in the advertising and communication fields. He joined the Vosges atelier in 1998, where he specialized in comics. He began he series 'Samedi et Dimanche' with writer Fabien Vehlmann at Dargaud in 1999. He is the author of the children's series 'Monsieur Forme' at Delcourt, and of 'Gilgamesh' (art by Frantz Duchazeau) at Dargaud.
