Zio Paperone, by Valerio Held

After his artistic studies, Valerio Held went to work for Luciano Gatto's studios. There, he drew some stories of Rolf Kauka's Fix und Foxi for the German market, and he inked some of Gatto's Disney comics. He also cooperated on the inking of Romano Scarpa's 'Paperolimpiadi' mini-series in cooperation with Maurizio Amendola, Sandro Del Conte and Luciano Gatto. In 1989, he started doing stories on his own. He has been a regular contributor of 'Duck' stories for Topolino since. In the late 1990s, his work was mainly featured in the Disney MEGAzine. Held illustrated several 'Horace Horsecolar' gags, as well as 'Beagle Boys', 'Duck' and 'Chief O'Hara' stories for the magazine. When the magazine folded, he returned to Topolino magazine.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
